Arsenal's Premier League title defence started on the perfect note as they successfully swatted Championship winners Coventry City aside, thrashing the Sky Blues 3-0.
First-half goals from Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka got the wheels in motion before captain Martin Odegaard added gloss to the scoreline by deceiving Carl Rushworth with a scrappy effort.
Christos Tzolis caught the eye with his vibrancy on the left flank while there were also strong performances from the likes of Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera, Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice and Myles Lewis-Skelly as Coventry experienced a baptism of fire in north London.
Here are several talking points from the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal sent a message to the rest of the division that they really mean business again this term.

Rice and Saka starting a surprise
Declan Rice played a whopping 69 games for Arsenal and England last season. Only new £117million Chelsea signing Morgan Rogers (71) played more in Europe’s top-five domestic leagues.
If you were to say on the back of the World Cup, where Rice experienced crippling neural hamstring pain and Saka battled an Achilles issue, that both would be starting the opening game of the new Premier League season, it would have been inconceivable.
Yet here, both featured from the off and looked effective as Saka opened his account, netting Arsenal's second, following a purposeful run forward from Rice.
Not to play devil's advocate but perhaps it would be naive if Arteta thinks both are ready to just carry on from here on in like any other season.
Yes they've had a prolonged period of rest but it's a gruelling season and the calendar is relentless. The speed of their integration had been slightly surprising.
Arsenal have a tough start to the season and it's difficult to envisage Arteta leaving either player out of the starting XI at Aston Villa with Chelsea at home also on the horizon.
But if their condition isn't managed now, it doesn't take a medical expert to perceive that there could be a knock-on effect later in the season, somewhere down the line. Both were subbed after 66 minutes.

Calafiori loves the start of a new season
Riccardo Calafiori started the first 15 Premier League matches last season, really making the left-back spot his own despite the signing of Piero Hincapie.
However, come the end of the season, Hincapie was handed a start in the Champions League final, though the Italian is understood to have been battling a fitness issue.
Calafiori has started the 2026-27 campaign in red-hot attacking form, first opening the scoring in the Community Shield in Cardiff before teeing up Kai Havertz for the first goal of the new season.
The defender is such a top athlete when he's at the top of his games but his persistent fitness problems have hindered his growth since he signed at the Emirates in the summer of 2024 from Bologna.
Nobody can dispute that when Calafiori is firing, he's among Europe's best full-backs because he has the quality to impact the game at both ends of the pitch.
Hincapie is also a strong competitor, there is no doubt he will get minutes and opportunities this season but when Calafiori is in this vein of form, it's his spot to lose.

Assist cheat code Tzolis
Whoever identified Christos Tzolis as a replacement for Leandro Trossard - Andrea Berta of Maurizio Michelli - was bang on the money. The similarities are clear for all to see but Tzolis just looks marginally sharper, which should be expected given he's younger.
He is unlikely to ever be an absolute elite world-beater but Arsenal supporters are going to love him for his durability, efficiency and desire to just keep going.
Tzolis is an assist magnet, he harvests chances, his decision making in the final third is crisp and he's comfortable on either foot.
All the ingredients are there for Tzolis to spark this season at the Emirates and he already looks to be a very astute signing at just £34million.
Providing he is credited with the assist for Bukayo Saka, it would mean he's now provided a goal contribution (goal or assist) in 21 of his past 22 outings at club level.
It's a ridiculous record and what's even more impressive is the only exception: the recent friendly draw with Como, where Tzolis still ended up having a say by slamming home the winning penalty during the shootout.
He looks a blend of both Trossard and Alexis Sanchez, who was a real fan-favourite in N5 prior to his disastrous transfer to Manchester United.

Four stars sent brutal message by Arteta
Things are looking rather bleak for Gabriel Martinelli. He was left out of the squad for the Community Shield and had to watch on as Arsenal lifted the trophy in Cardiff.
This time around he was omitted once again but there was space for Ethan Nwaneri, who was also absent last Sunday, suggesting Martinelli just really isn't in Mikel Arteta's plans at this moment in time (unless there's a fitness issue).
The Brazilian has attracted interest from Galatasaray, Qatari side Al-Sadd and Al-Hilal but is seemingly no closer to resolving his future.
Arsenal are yet to identify a top placement for Martinelli but the way he's being treated still feels somewhat harsh given he helped the club achieve Premier League glory last term.
The fact Tzolis is dazzling isn't helping his cause either as Martinelli was ordinary in the pre-season friendlies that he played following his return from the World Cup.
He should have returned hungrier than ever to turn the corner but it seems to have pushed him closer to the exit door.
Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson were also absent and the writing appears to be on the wall for the trio.

Gyokeres' snubbed
Mikel Arteta used all five substitutes but didn't bring Viktor Gyokeres on. That feels intriguing given the player has been linked with transfers to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in recent weeks.
We don't know if there is more context to the call such as a fitness issue but at this moment in time, it's clear the Swede is currently second in the Arsenal attacking pecking order to Kai Havertz.
Arteta clearly isn't afraid to be ruthless, as seen with Martinelli but he may equally just be looking to spark a reaction from Gyokeres as he looks to take the Gunners to the next level.
The Premier League champions have been in contact with Atletico Madrid in recent days to discuss various players and the Gunners have expressed an interest in Alvarez, though not at the current price it would take for Atletico to seriously consider a sale. They expect him to stay for now as Alvarez's dream switch to Barcelona is out of the equation.
There has also been talk of a swoop for Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen, so we'll have to see what transpires in the final stretch of the summer window. For now, nothing should be ruled out because there's a sense Arsenal could do something really bold, certainly in an attacking sense. They play on August 31 vs Aston Villa and the following day is transfer deadline day. Let's see what materialises.
