Tottenham-linked Bundesliga talent has caught the attention of Everton.
Tottenham Hotspur prioritised improving their defence and midfield after last season’s struggles. This led them to spend big on the likes of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, while Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi arrived on free transfers.
The Lilywhites’ next act appears to be adding to their attacking unit after the injury problems played a big part in disrupting their entire campaign. Savinho has been the club’s primary attacking target, and Roberto De Zerbi is finally about to land his main man after waiting patiently for over two months. The Manchester City winger is expected to become Spurs’ seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
Alongside Savinho, Tottenham have also been keeping tabs on Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya. The North London club held talks with the youngster’s representatives after scouting him last season. The Frenchman, who was once compared to Jadon Sancho, enjoyed a productive second season with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he registered four goals and as many assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
However, the Roberto De Zerbi-managed club did not make a concrete attempt to sign Jean-Matteo Bahoya. Now, he has become the subject of interest from another Premier League club.
Everton eye move for Jean-Matteo Bahoya
According to a report from Africa Soccer, Everton are showing an interest in signing Bahoya. The 21-year-old, who is still under contract until 2029, is valued at €25m. Eintracht Frankfurt are in a strong position to demand such a fee as they have no hurry or obligation to sell the nippy winger this summer.
Bahoya joined Frankfurt from Angers SCO in January 2024 for €8m and has since made 59 Bundesliga appearances, chipping in with five goals and seven assists. A left-winger by trade, he has the raw ingredients in his game that requires polishing. The Frenchman is tricky, unpredictable and direct, capable of causing problems for well-drilled defences.
However, at 21 and lacking experience of playing in England, the Everton bosses must be thinking twice before committing around €25m to sign Bahoya. There is no doubting his talent and potential, and the Toffees could benefit from his signing in the long run, provided they groom the Frankfurt attacker well.
As far as Tottenham are concerned, De Zerbi is backing Mathys Tel to improve his all-round game and become consistent. He will not want to hinder Tel’s development by bringing in another youngster who operates in his position. And with Savinho and Omar Marmoush heading to N17, there is no immediate requirement to go for Bahoya.
