Curtis Jones has revealed what helped convince him to leave Liverpool and complete a move to Inter Milan, sharing that a particular moment stood out to him on San Siro pitch last season

Former Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has shared one of the most decisive factors in his decision to leave Anfield for a new challenge in Italy with Inter Milan.
The 25-year-old officially called time on his 16-year Liverpool career on Friday, having initially joined the club's academy as a child. He progressed through the ranks before eventually breaking into the first team as a teenager, making his senior debut against Wolves in an FA Cup tie back in 2019.
In total, Jones was twice a Premier League champion with Liverpool, while he was also part of the team that won the FA Cup in 2022 and the Carabao Cup in both 2022 and 2024. He made over 220 senior appearances for Liverpool across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and registering 25 assists in that time.
Liverpool has earned a fee in the region of £25.7 million ($34.1 million), as well as a potential further £4.3 million ($5.8 million) in add-ons. The club also negotiated a 10 percent sell-on clause as part of the deal.
Inter's interest in Jones first emerged back in January, while Premier League rival Tottenham was also linked with the midfielder at the time. Regardless, a move never materialized in the last transfer window and Jones instead spent the remainder of the campaign at Liverpool.
That being said, in his first interview as an Inter player, Jones admitted he had been wanting to make the move for quite some time.
In fact, it was the Reds' Champions League meeting with the Italian giant at the San Siro last season that helped turn his head. Jones played the full 90 minutes of that game, which Liverpool narrowly won 1-0 thanks to a late penalty from Dominik Szoboszlai.
"It feels amazing," Jones said in an interview with Inter's official club channels, as quoted by Football Italia. "I’ve wanted to come to Inter for a while now, so I’m really excited.
"I’m a Liverpool lad, a Scouser, and I’ve spent my whole life there. But at this stage of my career, I wanted to take the next step, and I think this is the perfect club for me to do that.

"The biggest thing was the feeling I had last season when I played against Inter in the Champions League and experienced the passion their fans have for the team.
"Of course, you can also talk about the trophies, the club’s history and all the great players who have worn this shirt. But the fans were the decisive factor.
"I was out on the San Siro pitch and I could hear them singing and supporting the players throughout. Coming from Liverpool, I’ve always been used to that kind of love and support, that strong connection with the fans. I hope I can build that same special bond with the Inter supporters."
Jones joins a growing contingent of England players at Inter this summer. John Stones was signed as a free agent earlier in the window following the expiration of his contract at Manchester City, while fellow defender Djed Spence was secured in a deal from Tottenham a little over a week ago.
Inter begins its Serie A campaign with a home clash against Monza on Saturday, but it's more likely Jones will make his debut a week later away at Cagliari. Liverpool, meanwhile, kicks off its 2026/27 Premier League season against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
