The Premier League is finally back, and we’re set for an enthralling first weekend of action. Newly promoted Hull City host Manchester United, Liverpool travel to take on Newcastle, and Brentford face Tottenham in an early-season London derby. Other highlights include Chelsea’s trip to Fulham, and Nottingham Forest’s tricky opener against Leeds United.

Off the playing field, we’re closing in on the final week of the summer transfer window, and plenty of deals are expected to go through as clubs in England’s top tier look to do their final business before trading comes to a close until January. A total of over £2 billion has already been spent by Premier League clubs, as they look to make in their mark in notoriously challenging division.
Today’s rumours round-up begins in north London, where Spurs’ stunning summer window has seen them completely overhaul a side who narrowly avoided relegation last season. The incoming arrival on Savinho from Man City will take their spending past the £300m mark, and now they look set to spend even more, with a raid for his teammate Omar Marmoush.
The Guardian claim that Spurs will drop another £75m to land the Egypt international, who has struggled for game time during his two-season spell at the Etihad Stadium. They describe the deal as “not done, but likely” and reference quotes from City boss Enzo Maresca where he describes the process of attempting to convince a player to stay as “complicated”.
The 3AM Verdict: Should the two deals go through as expected, Spurs’ summer spend will be close to £400m, which is a serious statement of their intent for the upcoming campaign.Both players will improve their attacking options significantly, and it’s notable that every single one of the club’s summer signings have been from English clubs, after previously wasting millions on flops from abroad in recent seasons.

Next up, it’s over to west London, where Chelsea are looking to find a loan club for big-money winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who returned to professional football earlier this month after his doping ban case was resolved. According to BBC Sport, Leeds United are stepping up their efforts to get the Ukraine international on a temporary basis.
It’s said that Leeds have seen their opening offer for the ex-Shakhtar Donetsk star turned down, with the Whites’ suggested terms said to be “well short” of what the Blues require. It does not specify which element of the offer is said to be unsatisfactory, but it’s most likely to be the wage contribution percentage. Coventry City are also said to be in the mix, as well as Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg.
The 3AM Verdict: Mudryk looked electric when he first came to Chelsea, but he’s been out of the game so long now it will likely take him plenty of time to get back up to speed. Leeds could really do with another option on the left flank, and if they can convince the Blues to drop their demands, they could land themselves a serious weapon for the rest of the campaign.

Bringing things to a close, it’s over to Anfield, where Liverpool’s summer transfer business is far from over. The Reds are expected to sign two wingers, and could also be in the market for a central midfielder, as Curtis Jones’ moves closer to joining Inter. Caught Offside say Liverpool are set to “accelerate” a move for Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, who is thought to be valued at “around £78m” by the Eagles.
Palace are thought to be unwilling to sell one of their star players, having already lost key defender Maxence Lacroix in this window. Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola is said to have given the move his blessing, as he looks to bring in a more defensively minded operator who can free up the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch to roam forward.
The 3AM Verdict: We can’t see this one happening so late in the window. Palace wouldn’t have time to find a suitable replacement, and Wharton will likely be tempted to stay with the lure of Europa League football this season. That said, we can’t see the ex-Blackburn Rovers star staying at Selhurst Park beyond the 2026/27 campaign, with a growing cluster of elite sides queuing up to sign him.
