Arsenal have renewed their pursuit of Julian Alvarez and are prepared to pay more than £100million for the Atletico Madrid forward as Mikel Arteta continues to explore one more major attacking addition.
The Argentina international has remained one of Arsenal’s leading targets throughout the summer despite considerable uncertainty surrounding his future in Spain.
Arsenal have previously held direct discussions over Alvarez, with ReadArsenal reporting in July that contact had reached ownership level.
Their interest has now strengthened again.
The Times reports that Arsenal have renewed their pursuit of Alvarez and would be prepared to spend more than £100m to bring the 26-year-old back to the Premier League.

Julian Alvarez Arsenal pursuit moves again
Money may not be Arsenal’s biggest obstacle.
Alvarez has consistently preferred a move to Barcelona after making clear earlier this summer that he wanted to leave Atletico.
Barcelona’s own pursuit has become increasingly complicated, but the Argentina international has so far remained attracted to a move to the Catalan club.
That leaves Arsenal facing the same fundamental question that has surrounded the deal for much of the window.
They may be willing to meet the financial demands required for an elite attacker, but they still need Alvarez to choose north London.
Arsenal have nevertheless continued looking at his situation despite already strengthening Arteta’s attack.
The club signed Christos Tzolis this summer, while Kai Havertz further strengthened his claim to lead the line by scoring in Friday night’s 3-0 victory over Coventry City.
Viktor Gyokeres was again left on the bench.
Arsenal exits could shape £100m move
Further business may now depend partly on departures.
Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus were both absent from Arsenal’s matchday squad against Coventry while uncertainty continues around their futures.
The Guardian reports that Arsenal’s ability to complete an Alvarez deal could be connected to creating room through attacking exits.
Arteta was asked about Alvarez after the Coventry victory but refused to be drawn into discussing an individual transfer target.
Instead, the Arsenal manager stressed his satisfaction with the players already available to him and his desire to continue improving the relationships within the squad.
That does not appear to have ended Arsenal’s work in the market.
A willingness to exceed £100m for Alvarez would underline just how highly the club continue to value the former Manchester City forward.
