**Friday morning, and Jack Grealish gave [Everton](https://ReadEverton.com) fans something to cling to.**
He reposted a clip of his stoppage-time winner against Crystal Palace to his eight million-plus Instagram followers, a day out from Everton hosting the Eagles again in their opening game of the new season.
The goal itself ended Palace’s club-record 19-game unbeaten run last October, a scrambled finish deep into second-half added time that remains one of the standout moments of Grealish’s loan spell at the Hill Dickinson.
He dedicated it to Everton’s supporters at the time.
Everton CEO Angus Kinnear said this week that the club has “remained in contact” with Grealish since his return to City, stopping short of confirming any actual move.
Since then, reports have pointed to a fee around £20m, with his contract situation and recent injury history said to be working in Everton’s favour.
There’s also the football side of it. Grealish made four assists and scored twice across nine appearances in his brief Everton spell before the foot injury ended his season early, form good enough to win him Premier League Player of the Month.
He’s since been restricted to substitute appearances for City, coming on in their Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, and how much Enzo Maresca actually trusts him remains an unanswered question.
None of it changes where things actually stand, unfortunately.
Grealish is still a Manchester City player. But timing like this, on the eve of a Palace ‘reunion’, is exactly the kind of thing that keeps a reunion story alive whether Everton are ready to move or not.
