Newcastle United are interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez.
Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has refused to rule out an exit for Newcastle United target Nico Gonzalez.
The Magpies want to sign an experienced midfielder following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes, and have identified 24-year-old Gonzalez as a leading target.
Gonzalez joined Man City from Porto for £50million in January 2025 but has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot, starting just two of their final 17 Premier League matches last season.
The 24-year-old has been keen to stay at the Etihad Stadium following Rodri’s move to Barcelona, but it’s understood the Citizens are open to selling him.

Savinho is set to join Tottenham Hotspur for £75million, while Omar Marmoush is also expected to join the Brazilian to North London. Maresca was also asked about the prospect of Gonzalez leaving and didn’t rule it out.
"Apart from Rodri, the rest all have in common one thing:, they didn't play a lot,” Maresca told reporters ahead of Man City’s Premier League opener against AFC Bournemouth on Sunday.
“We said many times, we just finished a session and they all work every day because at the end they want to play. When they don’t play, they probably prefer to leave.
“So the ones that you mentioned, except Rodri, the rest, they are all players for different reasons they didn’t play a lot.
He added: “It’s quite clear. When a player wants to leave then it’s complicated to convince them to stay or to change their mind. It happened with Rodri, the same thing is happening with Savinho. Since day one, he has said he wants to leave, so now we are waiting.
“It’s complicated when the player is thinking they need a new challenge or they want to change because they want to go back to Spain or play more minutes. It then becomes complicated to convince them to stay.”
Newcastle had previously tried to sign former Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Marseille but a move broke down over personal terms, while Joao Palhinha, another target, has joined Benfica.
