Chelsea have rejected an approach from Roma to sign Jamie Gittens on loan, with the winger viewed as part of Xabi Alonso’s plans for the new Premier League season.
Roma had been monitoring Gittens for several weeks as they searched for another attacking option, but their interest has now progressed into a concrete proposal.
Alfredo Pedullà reports that Roma made an official request to Chelsea for a season-long loan, only for the Blues to reject the approach.
Ben Jacobs has subsequently reported that Gittens is considered part of Alonso’s plans and is expected to remain at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Jamie Gittens Chelsea future becomes clearer
Chelsea’s response represents significant progression from the position earlier this month.
ReadChelsea reported on 8 August that Roma were considering a loan move for Gittens, but there had been no formal proposal at that stage.
Roma have now tested Chelsea’s resolve and received a clear answer.
The decision also supports Gittens’ own stance over his future.
ReadChelsea previously reported that Gittens wanted to remain at Chelsea and compete for his place under Alonsofollowing discussions with the new head coach during pre-season.
His summer performances have strengthened that case.
Gittens returned after an injury-disrupted first Chelsea campaign and has looked sharper during Alonso’s preparations, scoring against Western Sydney Wanderers and contributing in several different roles.
Chelsea’s official website also highlighted Gittens’ increased confidence after recovering from the hamstring injury, with the winger speaking positively about working under Alonso.
Competition for attacking minutes remains intense at Stamford Bridge, particularly after another summer of recruitment.
Chelsea’s decision on Roma’s proposal nevertheless provides the clearest indication yet of where Gittens currently stands.
Roma wanted to borrow him.
Chelsea have said no, and Alonso intends to keep him.
