Liverpool supporters have aimed a subtle dig at Trent Alexander-Arnold following the confirmation of Curtis Jones' move to Inter Milan.
On Friday, it was announced that Jones had completed his move to Inter Milan, in a move that will see the Scouse-born midfielder join the Serie A side for a deal worth around $41 million (£30m).
The 25-year-old, who made over 200 appearances for Liverpool during his time at the club, has signed a five-year deal with Inter and will link up with fellow England international Djed Spence and John Stones, who also moved to the Italian side this summer.
Having been unveiled as an Inter player, Jones, who penned an emotional letter to Liverpool supporters upon his exit, told fans of the Serie A in a video for social media: "I just want to say, a massive thank you for all the support. I'm really honored and proud to be part of this amazing club. See you soon."
However, Liverpool fans on social media have drawn comparisons between Jones' exit and Alexander-Arnold's departure to join Real Madrid last summer. The 27-year-old departed Liverpool at the end of the 2024/25 season, a campaign in which the Reds won the Premier League title, for $11 million (£8.4m) after winding down his contract.
During his unveiling as a Real Madrid player, Alexander-Arnold addressed an audience in Spanish before switching back to English for the rest of his press conference, a decision which did not sit well with some Liverpool supporters, who believed it signaled that he was intent on leaving Merseyside for Spain well before the move actually happened.
"Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you to both President Florentino Perez and Real Madrid for this opportunity," said Alexander-Arnold in Spanish last summer.
"Signing for a club like Real Madrid doesn't happen every day. It's a dream come true. I'm very happy and proud to be here. I'm eager to show my skills to the Real Madrid fans.
"I know that playing for Real Madrid is a huge responsibility, but I'm ready to give everything for the team and the Real Madrid fans ... thank you and Hala Madrid."

Upon seeing Jones deliver his introductory message to Inter fans, one Liverpool fan took to social media to write, "At least he’s not fluent in Italian…" a clear dig at Alexander-Arnold.
A second added: "I was thinking the same thing."
A third commented": "He’s def NOT a rat, I really wish him the best."
And a fourth wrote: "@duolingo — Hi, information request please. How much time has a user by the name of Curtis Jones spent learning Italian."
