Gyokeres aims to seek a transfer from Arsenal this summer, as reported by Sunday Guardian Live. The 28-year-old Swedish striker is not too keen on playing for the Gunners this season, and wants to join Barcelona as soon as possible. He wants to play a marquee role for Barca this summer.
Gyokeres joined the Gunners last year. Before that, he played for Sporting CP between 2023 and 2025. Previously, the Swedish striker was part of Coventry City between 2021 and 2023. He also played for Brighton & Hove Albion between 2018 and 2021. However, in between, he shuffled between clubs like St. Pauli, Swansea City, and Coventry City under different loan spells.

Will Gyokeres be a good fit at FC Barcelona?
The Gunners have maintained that they are not letting out Gyokeres this summer. He played a crucial role in Arsenal’s dream run last year. The Gunners had won back the Premier League title after 22 years. They will like to retain Gyokeres, even if just for this season.
However, if Gyokeres is determined to leave Arsenal, the management can’t do much about it. The Swedish striker will strengthen the attacking lineup for Barcelona if he joins the club this summer. Despite Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres having left the team ahead of the next season, Barcelona boast of attackers like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Anthony Gordon, and Karim Adeyemi. If Gyokeres joins the team, he will strengthen the attacking lineup like no other. Barcelona won the La Liga title last season, and they will like to maintain the winning momentum.

What’s next for Viktor Gyokeres?
Gyokeres is currently awaiting the decision from the Barcelona management before he prepares for the next season. He has a decent record in terms of disciplinary issues. However, he needs to improve on his fitness if he wants to make a major impact in European football. Gyokeres suffered from a muscle injury in November 2025, during a Premier League clash against Burnley.
However, he recovered quickly. Gyokeres was later part of the Swedish team that played at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They made it beyond the group stage, but lost to France 3-0. Les Bleus made it to the semifinals for the third consecutive time since the 2018 edition. However, they finished fourth, losing to England 6-4 in the third place match.
For Viktor Gyokeres, it won’t be a cakewalk this season. The Gunners will still make a final push to retain him, even for this season only. However, if he is determined to join Barcelona, the Spanish club needs to keep at least £80 million ready. He was signed by the Gunners for approximately a total package £75 million last year, and they won’t settle for anything less than that. The Gunners are determined to retain the Premier League next year, and manager Mikel Arteta wants everything in control. It remains to be seen if Gyokeres manages to move out of Arsenal this season or not.
