Manchester City are still going all out to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, allowing the Blues the chance to cheekily scupper the rest of their transfer plans.
Despite Chelsea’s deadline to sell Fernandez being set over a week ago, this has not put City off potentially reuniting the midfielder with former manager Enzo Maresca.
David Ornstein believes the saga is not over yet, and it has even been said that City’s deal to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi has currently been put on hold as they put all their efforts into signing the Argentine.

Even if Chelsea keep hold of Fernandez, they have remained keen to add a new central midfielder to their squad this summer to make up for the exit of Andrey Santos.
There will also be an appetite for them to be a top-quality option, given the fact that Fernandez could also be looking to exit next summer if he does stay.

There are few more promising midfielders in world football than Bouaddi, and while his deal to join City is not complete the opportunity is there for the Blues to hijack the deal.
The Blues could even offer Lille the chance to have him on loan for the campaign, with them getting another year out of Fernandez before his impending exit in the future.
City have tried to bully Chelsea into letting go of Fernandez at this late stage of the transfer window, but so far the Blues have not fallen into that trap.

It would be a serious sign of Chelsea’s status as one of the top dogs in English football if they were able to pile more misery on City during what has been a nightmare transfer window so far.
They have been able to secure the signing of Elliot Anderson, however have lost experienced players in John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Nathan Ake.
Xabi Alonso has made a really impressive start to life in the role of Chelsea manager, and it would be a damning blow if he was to lose one of his most important players this late in the window.
