Arsenal legend ‘uncomfortable’ with treatment of Martinelli

**Ian Wright** has questioned the treatment of **Gabriel Martinelli** in the **Arsenal** squad.

The forward is being pushed further to the fringes of the first team. Having played in rotation with **Leandro Trossard** last season, Martinelli would have been expecting to fulfil a similar role with the Belgian’s replacement **Christos Tzolis**, who was signed as a left-wing option from **Club Brugge**.

But the Brazilian has barely featured for the _Gunners_ this month, indicating that the club have other plans. He has missed out on a place in matchday squads for the **Community Shield** success against **Manchester City** and the opening **Premier League** game against **Coventry City** in the last week.

Indeed, **Arsenal** have been welcoming offers for the 25-year-old, recently receiving a bid of £38 million from **Galatasaray** for his services. If all parties involved cannot find a suitable destination, he might have to stay at the **Emirates Stadium**. And without another incoming attacker that would play on the left flank, the _Gunners_ might be better served spending another year with him in the squad.

But **The Athletic** have reported that Martinelli has not been made aware of the club’s position on his future, and it is the principle underpinning developments behind the scenes that has annoyed Wright.

_"The way Martinelli is being treated at the moment, it really makes me feel uncomfortable._

_"I know they might want him out, and a lot of people might say, 'yeah, it's time for him to move him on'. But there's ways of doing that and it should suit him as well, how he wants to leave._

_"Not being involved in the squad, not being spoken to, he doesn't know what's going on. And yes, I know this - he doesn't know what is happening. He's done enough with this squad to be treated with a little bit more respect than he's being treated with at the moment._

_"If you bring_ **_Vinicius Junior_** _in, Martinelli can say to himself, they brought him in, they brought in Tzolis, I might be third \[in the pecking order.\] But if you bring Tzolis in and have_ **_Noni Madueke_** _on the other side, you're thinking to yourself, 'I can have it with these two, I've got something to offer'._

_"For him to be nowhere near it, it just makes me feel a bit sad for him."_
