Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe had basketball role models to look up to that paved the way for his budding NBA career. LeBron James was one of them as the young guard’s still getting over the fact that he is teammates with the future Hall of Famer.
Edgecombe is preparing for the second season of his career with the 76ers. He impressed throughout the course of his rookie campaign, earning All-Rookie honors as one of the best rising players in the league.
Edgecombe bore witness to Philadelphia’s remarkable offseason. They traded Paul George to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Jaylen Brown, then signed LeBron James in free agency. This elevates the team’s chances of competing for a championship, which would be the franchise’s first since 1983.
Edgecombe spoke with Chris Hine of the Philly Inquirer regarding him teaming up with James and Brown. He emphasized the importance of staying humble, but couldn’t deny that he was starstruck on getting to play with James on the same team.
“They not acting super big time, like they are. They’re really just a bunch of humble men. I’m just glad to be around them,” Edgecombe said via Chris Hine of the Philly Inquirer.
“It hasn’t gone away yet. It’ll probably go away when we’re all in the locker room or something, but our relationship has been growing. We talk, I always ask questions, and I’m just trying to learn a lot,” Edgecombe said.
VJ Edgecombe talks about his offseason workouts, if he’s still starstruck talking to LeBron and what it’s been like getting to know his new teammates:

VJ Edgecombe is certainly excited to get the ball rolling with Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. With Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey also in the fold, that starting unit will be one for opponents to fear as a potentially elite squad.
Philadelphia finished with a 45-37 record last season, securing the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference standings. They stunned the Boston Celtics in a 3-1 series comeback before losing in a four-game sweep to the New York Knicks in the East Semifinals.
The 76ers enjoyed an incredible offseason, adding James and Jaylen Brown to the roster. They also bolstered their overall depth by signing key role players in the backcourt with Anfernee Simons and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, making the team a possibly fierce contender for the 2027 championship.
