Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah is set to be joined by another former Reds teammate at Trabzonspor after Darwin Nunez snubbed Turkiye to remain in the Saudi Pro League

Former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho has agreed a transfer move to the Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor, where he looks set to reunite with ex-Reds teammate Mohamed Salah.
Fabinho left the Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad this summer — it was also eyeing Salah before the Egyptian's move to Turkiye — and has been deciding his next move after becoming a free agent.
The Brazilian, according to Fabrizio Romano, is ready to travel to Trabzon to seal the deal within the next couple of days. A medical has already been booked in, with his agent, Jorge Mendes, helping to drive the move.
Last week, Trabzonspor fell 1-0 behind in Europa League qualifying in a two-legged tie with the Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros. That was at home, so it needs to turn the tide in the away fixture.
Meanwhile, Trabzonspor also looked into signing Darwin Nunez earlier in the transfer window, but the Uruguayan forward is heading on loan to Al Diriyah in Saudi Arabia instead.
That moves comes 12 months after he left Liverpool to sign for Al Hilal. Salah and Nunez combined well at times at Anfield, but the pair will not be linking up again this term.

Last week, Liverpool brought in Nunez's international teammate, Ronald Araujo, on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona. The striker has previously expressed his admiration for the defender.
"Ronald, well, he's been my friend for a long time," Nunez told AUFTV in May 2025.
"He's a very humble person, he comes from the same background as me, he also has the same characteristics as me, we both come from towns that are very far from the city of Montevideo."
Beyond their close friendship, Nunez also highlighted the personal qualities that define Araujo's character: "This is a humble person, a cheerful person, a family man and a good friend."

Araujo could make his competitive debut for Liverpool this weekend when the Reds take on Newcastle at St James' Park.
He impressed last weekend on his first Anfield appearance in a Liverpool jersey, coming on for Jeremy Jacquet and playing 45 minutes against the Italian side Como.
Andoni Iraola will have to pick between the two center-backs to play alongside Virgil van Dijk when the new season gets underway, though the arrival of Araujo bolsters the Liverpool ranks.
