Liverpool, Aug. 22 (SANA) Everton launched their campaign with an encouraging 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace Saturday, easing pressure on manager David Moyes as he enters the final year of his contract.
Chief Executive Angus Kinnear said Everton’s American owners considered last season’s failure to qualify for European competition a disappointment. No talks are currently planned over extending Moyes’ contract.
Goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry secured the victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium, although Palace struck the post twice during the first half. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also produced a notable save to deny Eddie Nketiah.
Moyes acknowledged that Palace could have taken a two-goal lead but said Everton settled after scoring and managed the match well following their second goal.
The manager handed opportunities to 19-year-old midfielder Harrison Armstrong and 20-year-old winger Tyrique George, praising both players’ performances.
Everton are still seeking a specialist right-back, with Merlin Rohl filling the position against Palace. Moyes also wants further reinforcements before the transfer window closes as the club targets a return to European football.
