Arsenal started their Premier League season with a bang after defeating Coventry City 3-0. The champions dispatched the newly-promoted side at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.

Mikel Arteta's side certainly looked competent in front of goal, with Kai Havertz leading the line and opening the scoring. The German's strike was followed by goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

However, the Gunners' potency in front of goal isn't stopping them from bolstering their striking options. Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez remains a top target for Arteta, despite the Argentine forward making clear his preference is to join Barcelona.

However, Arsenal are not giving up on the chance of signing the 26-year-old and have reportedly made a last-ditch offer to convince him to join. Meanwhile, the north London side are said to have opened talks with a proven European striker.

Alvarez offer made

Alvarez has made no qualms about his desire not to return to England, having left Manchester City in 2024 for Barcelona. The Argentine's stance isn't deterring Arsenal from continuing to chase him, according to SPORT.

The Spanish outlet claims that Atletico prefer their striker to join Arsenal over their La Liga rivals, with the Gunners prepared to offer Victor Gyokeres plus €80million (£68m) for Alvarez.

They also report that the north London side are willing to offer the Argentina international an annual salary of €25m (£21m) to make him one of their highest-paid players. The staggering figure, reportedly offered in a last-ditch attempt to persuade the striker to move to the Premier League, would reportedly see Alvarez double his wages.

The Gunners reportedly have alternative plans should they not manage to convince Alvarez to sign. According to Foot Mercato, Arteta's side have begun negotiations with Galatasaray over Victor Osimhen.

The striker's name was previously brought up in negotiations when the Turkish giants looked to secure the signings of Ethan Nwaneri and Gabriel Martinelli. The Nigeria international has been an astounding success in Turkey, having led the club to back-to-back league titles.

However, the 27-year-old's future has been up in the air, with Tottenham also reported to be interested in the former Napoli hero. The Italian outlet claims that Osimhen's current salary of £17.1m would be a sticking point in any deal made and would require the striker to accept a significant wage cut.
