The Slovenian Basketball Association is planning a trip to Los Angeles later this year as it continues building its relationship with Luka Doncic's NBA team.
According to Siol, citing the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), federation president Matej Erjavec will visit the Los Angeles Lakers in November alongside Slovenia national team sporting director Sasa Doncic, Luka's father.
The trip will take place while the 2026-27 NBA regular season is underway, allowing Slovenian basketball officials to meet with the Lakers and continue developing the relationship between the franchise and the national team.
Erjavec previously explained that Slovenia wanted to establish the same kind of working relationship with the Lakers that the federation had developed with the Dallas Mavericks during Doncic's years in Texas.
Doncic not playing for Slovenia this summer
The November visit will come after an unusual summer in which Luka has not played for the Slovenian national team.
Erjavec recently revealed that Doncic had wanted to participate in at least some of Slovenia's home World Cup qualifying games, but his ongoing obligations related to a custody battle involving his children ultimately prevented him from joining the team.
"Luka wanted to play at least in the home games, meaning in July against Sweden and now against Hungary, but we soon realized that with all his obligations in the legal battle for custody of his children, that would not be possible," Erjavec told STA.
Slovenia is therefore preparing for its August World Cup qualifying window without its biggest star.
Doncic last represented his country at FIBA EuroBasket 2025, where he produced one of the most dominant individual tournaments in recent history.
Across seven games, the Lakers superstar averaged a tournament-leading 34.7 points along with 8.6 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 33.3 minutes per game.
He shot 45.8% from the field and 87.8% from the free-throw line, while Slovenia reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Germany.
Doncic currently hosting Lakers in Slovenia
Although Doncic is not with the national team, he is spending significant time around basketball in Slovenia this summer.
The 27-year-old is currently hosting his Lakers teammates and members of the coaching staff for an offseason minicamp designed to build chemistry ahead of the new NBA season.
The Lakers arrived in Ljubljana on Thursday for the gathering, which has combined basketball workouts with several off-court activities.
The group held a two-hour practice at Stozice Arena under assistant coach Greg St. Jean after beginning the trip with a team dinner.
Doncic's plans have also included a trip to Bled, golf, and other team-bonding activities.
