Newcastle United predicted XI v Liverpool as only two new signings start

The Matthias Jaissle era officially gets underway this afternoon as Newcastle United host Liverpool in their opening match of the 2026-27 Premier League season.

And with that comes plenty of intrigue around Jaissle’s team selection. The German has only been in charge for a matter of weeks after succeeding Eddie Howe as head coach.

“Honestly, I have some good thoughts already when it comes to the starting XI, but I'm also patient when it comes to picking them and announcing the starting XI,” Jaissle said at his press conference on Thursday. “So we still have a couple of days.

“You know that, probably as I do, that many things can change from one day to the other, so that's not the right time now to make the decision, as I have a couple of days left.”

The Magpies have brought in six new signings so far this summer, the latest being Amar Dedic in a £30million deal from Benfica. But how many of the club’s new recruits will start?
