Liverpool and Newcastle United will lock horns at St James’ Park later today in what promises to be an intriguing game of football.
In many ways, both sides have had comparable summers after losing a handful of key players and making a crucial managerial change.
Andoni Iraola’s arrival has breathed new life into the Reds, while Matthias Jaissle comes with quite the reputation as one of the brightest young coaches on the planet.
And Chris Sutton expects an entertaining contest in Tyneside, with Liverpool winning their first competitive game under Iraola.
Chris Sutton predicts Liverpool to win 3-1 vs Newcastle United
He wrote on the BBC: “I like everything I have seen from new Newcastle boss Matthias Jaissle, but he has had the heart ripped out of his team with Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes leaving.
“They were two absolute monsters in midfield, who were horrible to play against, but they have gone. So has the influence of Anthony Gordon and the experience of Kieran Trippier.”
“It is sad to see. That’s not to say Newcastle can’t do well now, but I think their fans are realistic about this season and how it will go.

“This will be a fascinating game because Liverpool are still adapting to life under Andoni Iraola and have struggled defensively in pre-season. Hopefully they can run for more than half an hour now, too.”
“I don’t think they will have any problems up front, however. Alexander Isak will get quite a reception – and not in a good way – from the home crowd but I do think he will shine for Liverpool this year, starting on Sunday.”
Newcastle United are in a spot of bother after losing so many key players, while Eddie Howe’s decision to leave midway through pre-season hasn’t helped them in the slightest.
However, Liverpool will need to be on their toes to get a positive result at St James’ Park.
Jaissle’s side have shown in recent weeks that they won’t be pushovers, while the atmosphere is expected to be absolutely bouncing for the dawn of a new era.
