Newcastle United host Liverpool at St James' Park
After what feels like a long summer, Newcastle United's 2026-27 Premier League campaign gets under way this afternoon when the Magpies host Liverpool at St James' Park.
It will be a very different United side which takes to the field today after months of change at the club, not least in the dugout, where Matthias Jaissle takes charge of his first competitive game. Newcastle have made six new signings, with several debuts expected today, including Lukas Hornicek in goal.
Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba will compete for a midfield role, while Amar Dedic could start at right-back with Tino Livramento not yet ready to start matches. Up front, Bazoumana Toure could get the nod on the left, but Harvey Barnes has had a strong pre-season.
