Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has backed his old international teammate Frank Lampard to take on a huge coaching job in the future, following his success at Coventry

Jamie Carragher believes that his former international teammate Frank Lampard is a future England manager, despite his previous struggles in top coaching jobs.
The 48-year-old has spent eight years in management so far, starting off his journey with Derby in the Championship, before making his return to Chelsea as a coach, years on from the best years of his playing career in west London.
While in the post, Lampard had to battle against some difficult circumstances, such as a transfer embargo, bringing through some of the academy stars to impress and land a top-four finish. The player-turned-manager struggled to kick on beyond there, however, losing his job in 2021 before Thomas Tuchel took the position and won the Champions League in the same campaign.

Lampard has since managed at Everton, and then had a second stint at Chelsea as an interim manager, where he was unable to make much of an impact.
The former midfielder then went to Coventry in the Championship, kicking on from the work of Mark Robins to eventually earn promotion to the Premier League in 2025/26, with hopes of landing survival at the first time of asking in 2026/27.
While it's unclear how Lampard may do with the Sky Blues back in the top flight, former Liverpool and England defender Carragher believes he could be in line for the England national team job in the future.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "It’s a rollercoaster, being a player or manager. Unless you are the absolute elite, and you seem to win every week or do really well.
'For me, what Frank Lampard has done is come back from a couple of knocks and shown he’s a really good manager.
"But I think he’s a future England manager, I really do. I think the England manager should be English, that’s why I’m saying that as well.

“But when you think of where he’s managed; he’s been in the Championship, he kept Everton up, very close to bringing Derby up, even at Chelsea, he did brilliantly in his first season, then came back, and I was commentating on that game, and it was hard to watch.
“But all those experiences that he’s had are what make him the manager he is now.”
For now, however, Lampard's full focus will be on keeping Coventry in the Premier League. It's a task that took a slight setback in the club's first outing in the top flight in 25 years.
The Sky Blues suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the opening match of the campaign, though it's a match that is unlikely to define the campaign as a whole.
Lampard's next match could have a huge impact, however, as his players take on fellow promoted side Hull at home, in what could be an important encounter for both teams.
