Mykhailo Mudryk’s future at Chelsea remains undecided going into the final stages of the summer window, and reports now claim that a shock move to Tottenham could be on the cards.

Ukraine star Mudryk is back and available for Chelsea after almost two years on the sidelines. The winger has featured for Chelsea in pre-season, but the former Shakhtar Donetsk star looks certain to go on loan.

Mudryk, who was bought for the best part of £90m by Chelsea, has been linked heavily with Leeds United over the weekend. It was claimed that Chelsea rejected Leeds’ initial loan offer to land the 25-year-old.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry and BlueCo club Strasbourg have also been heavily linked with landing Mudryk on loan, with Omari Kellyman and Deivid Washington set to join the Ligue 1 side on a permanent basis.

Below, we explain the details behind a possible move to Spurs for Mudryk and why a deal with one of Chelsea’s bitterest rivals actually makes sense – due to two reunions Mudryk would form at Spurs.

Mudryk could be set for a shock Tottenham move…

Now, Spurs could enter the fray for Mudryk. Roberto De Zerbi worked with Mudryk at Shakhtar Donetsk, playing 19 times before the season came to an end. In that time, Mudryk had a hand in 11 goals.

Clearly, De Zerbi would like to reunite with the Chelsea star – despite the Spurs-Chelsea rivalry. But a move for Mudryk completely hinges on Cody Gakpo and whether Spurs can agree a fee for the Reds ace.

That is according to reporter Nicolo Schira, who claims there is an agreement in principle between Spurs and Liverpool star Gakpo on a five-year deal. It is unclear if the two parties can agree a transfer fee.

“Tottenham are set to submit a new official bid to Liverpool to try to close Cody Gakpo. Agreement in principle with the Dutch winger for a contract until 2031. Spurs’ Plan B is Mykhaylo Mudryk (Chelsea).”

De Zerbi reunion makes Spurs move perfect for Mudryk

What Chelsea need from a loan move for Mudryk is a place where he can go and shine and prove once again that he is good enough for the Premier League. A stage where he can prove worthy to Xabi Alonso.

To do that, he needs to feel as comfortable as possible. This is a player who needs to be given time and faith placed in him to reignite his best form. Working under his former manager will give him that.

Not only would he reunite with De Zerbi, but he’d also reunite with his old Chelsea pal Conor Gallagher at Spurs. Given Gallagher is one of Spurs’ leaders, the England star would play a key role in integrating him.

Mudryk needs the best possible stage, and at Spurs, he would get that. After so much turmoil, he might not even need to relocate, and forgetting the rivalry, a move to North London makes perfect sense.
