Newcastle United v Liverpool team news: Dan Burn has been ruled out for the Premier League opener at St James’ Park.
Dan Burn arrived at St James’ Park on crutches and wearing a protective boot after being ruled out of Newcastle United’s Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Newcastle captain rolled his ankle in training and is facing a spell on the sidelines. Club sources claim the injury is not thought to be serious and the protective boot is to limit movement to allow Burn’s injury to heal.
He joins Tino Livramento and Joelinton on the sidelines for the opening game of the campaign. Sven Botman comes into the starting line-up at centre-back along with Malick Thiaw.

Fabian Schar, who hasn’t featured in the Premier League since January, is Newcastle’s only fit senior centre-back option on the bench for Matthias Jaissle’s first competitive match as head coach.
New signings Lukas Hornicek, Amar Dedic and Sean Steur all make their full debuts while Ewen Jaouen, Aladji Bamba and Bazoumana Toure are on the bench.
Matches between Liverpool and Newcastle are always exciting encounters, but this curtain-raiser for both teams has a lot of noise surrounding it. Ahead of the match, both sets of fans will pay tribute to Kevin Keegan following the sad news of his passing earlier this summer. Keegan has legendary status at both clubs and remains adored by fans to this day.
The match also marks Alexander Isak’s first back at St James’ Park since his Premier League record £130million move to Liverpool last year. After a difficult debut campaign thwarted by injuries, Isak will be looking to get back to his goalscoring best not seen since his days in black and white.
