Jeremy Jacquet has been named to start alongside Virgil van Dijk in the opening game of Liverpool’s Premier League season at Newcastle.
The majority of Andoni Iraola‘s selection choices for the opening day mostly picked themselves, but there were decisions to make at centre-back and on the wings.
In the end, Alisson will sit behind Jacquet and Van Dijk, with Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez at full-back.
Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai will continue together in midfield, with Florian Wirtz occupying the No. 10 role.
On the right wing, Rio Ngumoha gets the nod ahead of new signing Victor Munoz, with Cody Gakpo lining up on the left as Alexander Isak leads the attack on his return to St James’ Park.
As for Iraola’s options off the bench, he has the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Trey Nyoni, Lewis Koumas and Munoz to turn to.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are without the departed Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, and Kieran Trippier, with Dan Burn, Joelinton, and Tino Livramento sidelined with injury.
