Arsenal hold £60m Gabriel Martinelli talks

David Ornstein reports that Al Hilal are pursuing Martinelli and that talks are ongoing between the Saudi Pro League club and Arsenal.

There is no agreement yet, but Arsenal are seeking a fee in the region of £60m for the winger. Martinelli is also now open to the possibility of joining Al Hilal.

That represents a significant change in the player’s position.

ReadArsenal previously reported that Martinelli rejected a £38m move to Galatasaray after making clear that the Turkish champions were not an option.

According to talkSPORT, Martinelli has now softened his stance on leaving Arsenal and would consider Al Hilal.

The winger has also been omitted from Arsenal’s opening two matchday squads of the campaign, increasing uncertainty surrounding his future.

Martinelli exit would leave Arsenal with major decision

Arsenal are under no pressure to accept anything below their valuation, but £60m would represent a substantial return for a player who joined from Ituano in 2019.

Martinelli has scored 62 goals in 278 appearances for the Gunners and was an important part of Mikel Arteta’s transformation of the side.

His position has nevertheless become increasingly uncertain following the arrival of Christos Tzolis.

ReadArsenal previously examined how Tzolis’ rapid impact created a major selection problem for Martinelli, with the Greece international immediately establishing himself as a serious option on the left.

A £60m sale could also provide Andrea Berta with additional flexibility during the closing stages of the transfer window.

For now, however, the key development is that all sides are talking.

Arsenal have their valuation, Al Hilal are actively pursuing the deal and Martinelli is no longer closing the door on an exit.
