Liverpool faced off against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park earlier today as they looked to secure a good result on the road in the Premier League. The Reds made a slow start to the game and conceded the opening goal in the fifth minute when Anthony Elanga found the back of the net. Andoni Iraola’s men went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.
Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool with a great strike in the 55th minute. However, Joe Willock restored Newcastle’s lead just a couple of minutes later. The Reds ended up scoring the equaliser thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai’s strike from the penalty spot in injury time as Iraola’s players secured a hard-fought 2-2 draw at St. James’ Park.

He made a few solid saves at the back but conceded two goals this afternoon.
**RB: Jeremie Frimpong – 6/10**
Frimpong was far from convincing when defending inside his half, but managed to engineer some decent chances in the final third.
**CB: Jeremy Jacquet – 6.5/10**
He gave a good account of himself defensively and was positive on the ball.
**CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7/10**
Van Dijk made a lot of crucial clearances at the back and was a threat at the other end of the field.

**LB: Milos Kerkez – 6.5/10**
He worked hard at both ends of the field.
**CM: Dominik Szoboszlai – 7/10**
Szoboszlai was a menace at times in the final third and managed to score from the penalty spot in injury time with an emphatic effort.
**CM: Ryan Gravenberch – 6.5/10**
He managed to shine at times in the middle of the park and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
**RW: Rio Ngumoha – 6/10**
Ngumoha was mostly ineffective during his time on the field.
**CAM: Florian Wirtz – 6.5/10**
He caught the eye at times in the final third and was tidy with his ball distribution.
**LW: Cody Gakpo – 8/10**
Gakpo worked hard defensively when needed and was not shy of having a strike at goal. He equalised for the Reds in the 55th minute.
**ST: Alexander Isak – 7/10**
He was a real handful for the Newcastle centre-backs, but there was no goal for him.

Mac Allister added some energy to Iraola’s midfield.
