The San Francisco 49ers are currently taking part in training camp as they gear up for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. The 49ers got a worrisome injury update last year when it was revealed that star running back Christian McCaffrey had missed practice due to an undisclosed issue.
However, thankfully, the team got a positive injury update on both McCaffrey and star tight end George Kittle on Sunday.
“Kittle and Christian McCaffrey are in uniform as practice begins,” reported Matt Barrows of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.
Kittle is coming off an Achilles injury he suffered during the 49ers' blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks last year in the divisional round of the playoffs, and has amazed fans by already making it back in time to start training camp.
Meanwhile, McCaffrey is coming off a relatively healthy 2025 season that saw him put together some monster games and carry the 49ers' offense despite their various injury absences, including quarterback Brock Purdy.
Of course, McCaffrey himself has been a major injury risk over the years, missing significant time during his stint with San Francisco, but the 49ers are hoping that this is the year all of their key players will finally be able to stay on the field together consistently.
Last year, the 49ers also saw numerous key defensive players, headlined by Fred Warner and Nick Bosa, go down with season-ending injuries, furthering a trend of devastating injury blows that have derailed multiple San Francisco seasons in recent memory.
However, thankfully, things seem to be trending in the right direction on that front as the new season approaches.
The 49ers will kick off their 2026 season on September 10 against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia.
