As rumors have surrounded the Detroit Pistons and star Jalen Duren over the ongoing contract negotiations, there is no sign yet of what the future holds for both sides. With the contract uncertainty surrounding the Pistons' big man, Duren was recently honored in his hometown, with even his name being bestowed upon a street.
In Duren's hometown of Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania, the city held a celebration of “Jalen Duren Day,” where they renamed Burnside Avenue to “Jalen Duren Way.” With no mention of the contract talks between Duren and Detroit, he instead spoke about what it means for him to witness the festivities.
“I want to say thank you for everybody coming out,” Duren said, according to the Delco Times, a local paper of Delaware County. “I don’t do it for any of this, but I’m just appreciative, I do it for the young-ins, to show you all that you all chase, you all dream, anything possible, I appreciate everything, everybody coming out supporting me. Let’s continue to put Sharon Hill on the map.”
What a fun day in Sharon Hill. Jalen Duren was back in his hometown for his annual community fun day and basketball league. And the city surprised him with a street named after him. He’s been active member of this community even after leave for college. pic.twitter.com/VUrmPyqZ1h

More on the contract talks between the Pistons and Jalen Duren
While Duren is being celebrated for the contributions made to his hometown, his future in the NBA remains a question mark, specifically referring to whether he plays for the Pistons or not. NBA insider Tim MacMahon would imply that the negotiations have been “ugly,” with ClutchPoints' NBA insider Brett Siegel putting the laborious talks in perspective.
“The assumption over the last few weeks is that their offer has increased slightly to what could be deemed some type of ‘middle ground' between the two sides. That is what is currently on the table. Just because Duren ends up taking a new deal with the Pistons doesn't necessarily mean his long-term future past the 2026-27 season will be in Detroit, especially with how these negotiations have gone,” Siegel wrote.
With Duren eligible for a five-year, $287 million max contract extension, it remains to be seen how the negotiations are resolved. Last season with Detroit, the 22-year-old averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 65 percent from the field.
