Liverpool are said to be “interested” in completing the signing of Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr, according to an interesting new transfer claim.
The Reds’ pursuit of new wingers remains ongoing, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola and Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh looking like the current leading options. A second bid has been rejected by the Seagulls for the latter.
There is no guarantee that they will both arrive before the end of the summer transfer window, however, so it is important that alternatives are also being looked at by Liverpool.
According to journalist Nevzat Dindar, in quotes relayed by TEAMtalk, Palace winger Sarr is seen as an option, with Galatasaray also pushing hard to snap him up:
“Ismaila Sarr can play in many areas of the attacking line, which is why [Galatasaray boss] Okan Buruk wants this transfer very much. Galatasaray is extremely serious about the Ismaila Sarr transfer. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, is just as determined not to sell the player.
“However, Sarr wants to leave and did not take a place in the squad today for this reason. It’s also reported that Liverpool is interested in the Senegalese footballer.”
Ismaila Sarr has hurt Liverpool many times in the past
Liverpool certainly know a lot about Sarr, who has scored an impressive seven goals against them in his career, including two for Watford back in the 2019/20 Premier League-winning season.
That brought an end to an incredible run of 27 wins and a draw in their first 28 league games under Jurgen Klopp in that campaign, and the Senegalese has hurt the Reds plenty since, too.
The £50m-rated Sarr could be a strong choice for Liverpool, having proven himself in English football for years now, being described as “fantastic” by former Palace manager Oliver Glasner back in 2024.
At 28, he is an experienced figure who could still have three or four years at the highest level, and he is capable of doing an effective job on both wings and as a second striker.
Sarr is at his best on the right flank, however, so he may be viewed as an alternative to Minteh, as well as highly-rated PSG teenager Ibrahim Mbaye.
