Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick insisted he is not “asking” Alejandro Balde to leave the LaLiga champions amid growing links with Manchester United as he explained why the defender was left out of the squad to face Elche on Monday (AEST).
Balde has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Premier League giants Manchester United, who are looking to bolster their left-back position having so far been unable to prise Lewis Hall from Newcastle United.
Transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano claimed the Red Devils have spoken with Balde’s camp in recent days, while Jijantes said the 22-year-old has decided to leave Camp Nou.
Balde was left out of Barca’s squad for their LaLiga opener away to Elche, which they won 5-0 and boss Flick addressed the speculation surrounding the seven-time Spain international.

“No, I’m not asking him to leave. This morning I felt there was something wrong with him,” Flick said post-game.
“I spoke to him and said: ‘At this moment, I have this feeling, and I think it’s best for you to clear your mind, sort out your thoughts, and then we’ll talk again tomorrow.’ And he agreed as well.
“He agreed to it because there are so many things going around in his head, and that’s why he’s not here.”
Balde has played a key role in Barcelona’s success in recent seasons.
He started 21 league games last season en route to the LaLiga trophy, but saw his campaign disrupted by hamstring and muscle injuries.
Balde emerged from Barca’s youth system in 2021 and he has since won three LaLiga titles, to go with three Supercopa de Espana honours and the Copa del Rey.
