Enes Kanter kicked out of Fever game after altercation with WNBA activist

In a publicity stunt, former NBA player Kanter announced on Aug. 7 his plans to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft. The move was part of the fallout stemming from Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham’s comments against transgender women in women’s sports.

“After careful consideration and reviewing the current eligibility guidelines, I’m officially declaring myself a (WNBA) prospect,” he posted on X. “If simply declaring who you are is all that’s required, then I meet every single requirement necessary to compete in the WNBA. My team and I have carefully examined the WNBA’s eligibility criteria and governing framework surrounding self-identification and inclusion.

“Based on the current guidelines, I can and am officially declaring my eligibility for the upcoming WNBA draft in April 2027. I know my presence on the court will stir up strong opinions. I am definitely not here to mock, make fun of, or disrespect any community or personal choices.”

On Sunday, Kanter attended Cunningham and the Fever’s game against the Chicago Sky. Unfortunately for Kanter, he was unable to see the finish. Kanter got into a verbal spat with Sky guard Natasha Cloud, one of the WNBA’s most outspoken activists for social justice. The two had to be kept apart by the Sky coaching staff and arena security, and ultimately, Kanter was kicked out.

Cloud has never been shy to voice her opinion. Most recently, she called out men for throwing sex toys onto the court during a Fever game.

“That hate is unwarranted,” she said. “It says more about the internal struggles of that individual than it ever will say about the collective group they have a problem with. The men that are throwing it, it shows you are extremely weak. Like, extremely weak. And it says a lot about how you feel about women.”

Hopefully, Kanter and everyone distracting from the product on the court move on to something else so that the players and fans can return the focus to the basketball on the floor.
