Arsenal have been credited with transfer interest in Brighton hotshot Jack Hinshelwood this month, and the Seagulls man got his season off to a flyer on Saturday.

Brighton romped to a 4-0 win over an out-of-sorts Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium, rocketing to the top of the Premier League table. Hinshelwood was the star of the show, netting a brace in the first half, as the 21-year-old continues to turn heads.

That performance certainly won't have lowered the Brighton asking price, with Manchester United also linked with the midfielder, but the Gunners may want to pick up on the words of club legend Martin Keown and act sooner rather than later.

Last week, The Sun reported that Arsenal were 'leading the race' to sign Hinshelwood, with the 21-year-old labelled a top priority, despite the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United.

The Gunners are already known to have direct contact with the player's representatives and are said to be preparing an official bid. The fact that Hinshelwood can play both in central midfield and in the full-back positions is believed to be valued by Mikel Arteta.

Manchester United, who are in the market for a full-back, are also linked despite also already investing heavily in central midfield this summer. Manchester City are also namechecked as potential suitors in the report, with a £50million bid expected to be enough to tempt Brighton to sell.

Hinshelwood broke into the first team at Brighton during the 2023/24 season and has quietly gone about establishing himself as one of the division's most exciting prospects.

The midfielder made 30 appearances across all competitions last season and ended the campaign in fine form, scoring three goals in the final five Premier League fixtures.

That has helped build the hype over what he could achieve over the 2026/27 campaign. In his pre-season picks with TNT Sports, Arsenal legend Martin Keown didn't hesitate when naming the Brighton man as the star he believes will be Young Player of the Season prior to the weekend.

In his first 64 minutes, Hinshelwood too a stride towards fulfilling that prophecy. The midfielder set the tempo for Brighton.

The player was in the right place at the right time to tap home his first from a Diego Gomez cross. Even with his side 3-0 up, Hinshelwood was relentless and hounded a weak Villans defence to pinch the ball off Joao Gomes and bag another just a minute later.

It continues a hot goal scoring streak from last season. Speaking about the player last week, Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler said: "Overall, I'm impressed since the second part of last season.

"He's developing as a player but also as a personality; he's getting into a leadership role, he's stepping up, although he's quite young, but that's what we need now."

The performances are matching the talk of Keown and Hurzeler, which makes a swoop for Hinshelwood certainly one to watch before the end of the window.
