**Carabao Cup 2nd round, and a plum tie.**
When the draw was made for the second round of the Carabao Cup, Luton Town were drawn against one of the most famous clubs there is, Chelsea.
The West London club are unique, having won every club competition available and are currently the World Club Champions after beating Paris Saint-Germain, in the USA, in the summer of 2025.
The tie promises to be a tough test for the Hatters but don’t rule out a cup shock.
Ahead of the tie, I thought I would re-hash a previous _‘They Played for Both’_ article to include those who qualify for consideration since the original article was published.
After much deliberation, I have settled on the starting XI (plus substitute) listed below:
**Goalkeeper** – Alex Chamberlain
**Defender** – Anthony Grant
**Defender** – Paul Elliott
**Defender** – Mal Donaghy
**Defender** – Victor Moses
**Midfield** – Ross Barkley
**Midfield** – Kasey Palmer
**Midfield** – Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall
**Forward** – Mick Harford
**Forward** – John O’Rourke
**Forward** – Mark Stein
**Substitute** – Kerry Dixon
As can be seen it is a pretty decent starting XI who, I am sure, would give anyone a decent game.
But aside from the list above, there were several others who met the criteria and deserved consideration, as shown below:
* Tony Godden
* Alan Birchenall
* Alan Judge
* Damien Matthew
* Paul Hughes
* Sam Parkin
* Trevor Aylott
* Peter Nicholas
* Izzy Brown
However, would you include any of the above in place of those I have chosen?
Does Alan Birchenall deserve a place, should I have included Peter Nicholas or would you prefer Alan Judge or Tony Godden in place of Alex Chamberlain?
If so, who would replace who?
Or, indeed, are there any players that fulfil the criteria I may have missed?
