The issue, though, is money. Osimhen currently pockets north of €20million net a year at Galatasaray (a figure that would make him one of the best paid players in the entire Premier League) and Arsenal have made it clear they have no appetite for that sort of financial gamble.
It is worth remembering this is a club that has built its recent success on smart recruitment rather than reckless spending. And there is little sign that philosophy is about to change just because a Champions League-ability striker has become available. The message from those inside the club is straightforward enough, they want Osimhen but only on their terms.
That leaves the ball firmly in the Nigerian’s court. He can stay in Turkey, continue earning handsomely and play Champions League football with Galatasaray, or he can take the leap to a Premier League champion side fresh off a Champions League final appearance, but only if he is willing to take a considerable pay cut to make it happen.
