Manchester City 2-1 Bournemouth: Post-Match Bournemouth Player Ratings

Manchester City were forced to dig deep as they came from behind to beat Bournemouth 2-1 in a dramatic first Premier League game under Enzo Maresca. Marcus Tavernier gave the visitors the lead with a superb finish, while City struggled to find their rhythm and wasted several opportunities to get back into the contest.

The hosts eventually found a way back through Marc Guehi's powerful header before a late winner completed the turnaround.

Below, VAVEL have rated the Bournemouth players’ performances in Manchester.

Bournemouth Player Ratings

Đorđe Petrović – 7

Made a couple of big saves to keep The Cherries ahead at 1-0. Petrović looked composed between the sticks for much of the game, though he struggled at times under pressure from Manchester City’s attackers with the ball at his feet.

Adam Smith – 6

The Bournemouth captain handled the threat of Antonio Semenyo well, particularly in the first half. However, Smith began to tire after the break, with his lack of pace becoming more noticeable as City increased the pressure.

James Hill – 5

Bournemouth’s new number five was having a solid game for the most part, but his positioning proved costly for the winning goal. Hill failed to step up with the rest of the defensive line, keeping Josko Gvardiol onside as City found a late winner.

António Silva – 7

A good debut from the Portuguese centre-back, who looked comfortable progressing the ball up the pitch. Silva also did well to keep Erling Haaland relatively quiet and showed plenty of promise on his first appearance for The Cherries.

Adrien Truffert – 8 (MOTM)

Combined well with Marcus Tavernier down the left-hand side and provided a useful outlet going forward. Truffert also worked hard to recover possession and helped Bournemouth deal with City’s attacks.

Lewis Cook – 6

Cook worked hard in the middle of the pitch but struggled at times against City’s pace and movement. Bournemouth left too much space through the middle, allowing City’s midfielders to run at the defence after the break.

Alex Scott – 7

A composed performance from Scott, who helped Bournemouth progress the ball from midfield. The midfielder completed six accurate long passes, according to Flashscore, while also winning 83% of his ground duels.

Rayan – 6

Rayan appeared to struggle for fitness following his World Cup involvement with Brazil and never quite reached his best level. He did, however, produce a good pass in the build-up to Bournemouth’s goal before fading as the game progressed.

Justin Kluivert – 6

Kluivert showed some promising moments after coming into the side with El Junior Kroupi unavailable through injury. There is still work to be done as he settles back into the team, but this was an encouraging enough return to the starting XI.

Marcus Tavernier – 7

A very good performance from Tavernier, who caused City plenty of problems down the left-hand side, particularly during the first half. His movement and work rate were a constant threat, while his excellent finish gave Bournemouth the lead.

Evanilson – 8 [MOTM]

Evanilson’s hold-up play was excellent throughout and he played a key role in Bournemouth’s opener, producing a clever pass for Tavernier to finish. He also worked tirelessly out of possession and led the press well, continuing the impressive form he showed during pre-season.

Substitutes

Tyler Adams - 5

Couldn't make his usual impact off the bench, struggling to influence the game after coming on and conceding twice during his time on the pitch.

Daniel Jebbison - 6

Looked to continue his impressive pre-season form after coming off the bench and, when Evanilson began to tire, proved to be the perfect replacement for the Brazilian forward. Used his strength well to hold the ball up and bring others into play, while also providing a threat in the final third. Came close to finding the back of the net himself, but was denied by a brilliant save from Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Alex Toth - 5

Struggled to make an impact during the 15 minutes he was given, failing to influence the game in the final third. Lost possession on a couple of occasions and struggled to win many of his individual duels during his time on the pitch.

Ben Gannon-Doak - 5

Made a couple of good passes during his short spell on the pitch but wasn't given enough time to make a significant impact on the game.
