The Julian Alvarez transfer saga has taken a new twist this summer. Atletico Madrid are said to have blocked Barcelona from signing the striker. Mikel Arteta is pushing to bring the Argentine forward to North London this summer.
Atletico Madrid Block Barcelona Move for Julian Alvarez
The current transfer saga centered around Julian Alvarez has reached an endpoint. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the story is over for Barcelona. The Culers have spent weeks waiting for a potential deal.
However, Atleti have firmly made it clear that they will not sell the striker to their La Liga rivals. The board and manager Diego Simeone have taken a firm stance against doing business with Barcelona. There looks to be no room for a deal. Arsenal, however, can take advantage of this situation. They are looking to secure a world-class attacker.
As reported by The Guardian, Atleti prefer the player to move to the Emirates rather than join their direct rivals. The Culers are in need of a striker after the departure of Lewandowski as well as Ferran Torres. However, because Atleti have blocked this path, the La Liga winners may have to pursue other options.

Mikel Arteta Makes Fresh Push for Julian Alvarez
To benefit from this situation, Mikel Arteta has got involved in talks. As reported by The Standard, the manager has directly called Alvarez to convince him to move to North London. This is their third attempt to lure the striker. The club first reached out to the player in 2024 before his move to Spain from Man City. They tried again a second time last year before finally signing Gyokeres.
However, Alvarez has maintained his wish to join Barcelona. His options remain scarce if Atleti keep their stance. Meanwhile, the Gunners are eager to land a marquee forward. The club want to maintain their status as top contenders in the Premier League.
Alvarez has a great record for the Madrid club, scoring 49 goals and giving 17 assists in 106 matches. In addition, his career includes two league titles and a Champions League trophy during his spell in English football at Man City. The Gunners believe his broad range across the front line would improve their attacking play.

Reality for Arsenal and other backup plans for the club
Despite their choice for a foreign sale, Atletico Madrid retain a strict official stance on their star forward. CEO Miguel Angel Gil and manager Diego Simeone have clearly stated that the player is not for sale this summer. As reported by Daily Mirror, Simeone repeated this claim by stating, “I think if the club owner spoke so bluntly about what he said, that’s all there is to it, it’s more than clear. “
He also expressed his desire to retain the player by saying, “He’s our best player, and we’re going to try to build a team around him.” Atleti have also turned down a massive £130m offer from Real Madrid earlier this summer. However, the Gunners have laid out a swap deal plan.
Reports say that the London club have offered to include Viktor Gyokeres in the deal. The Swedish striker scored 21 goals in his debut season and could give Madrid an instant option. If this attempt fails, Arsenal have lined up a solid backup plan in Victor Osimhen. The Galatasaray forward is a long-term target for the Gunners. The club have opened talks with the Turkish club over a possible deal.
