Luka Doncic had one final request for his Los Angeles Lakers teammates before they wrapped up their memorable minicamp in Slovenia.
According to Ekipa, the Lakers were originally scheduled to leave Ljubljana for the United States on Monday morning, but their departure was pushed back after Doncic asked his teammates for a small favor.
The reason initially remained a mystery, but it was later revealed to be connected to a special charitable visit.
Doncic and his business manager, Lara Beth, took the Lakers to a maternity hospital in Ljubljana, where the players met hospital employees and visited wards to greet mothers with newborn babies.
The Lakers reportedly agreed to the change in plans without hesitation.
Their departure from Slovenia was subsequently moved to 15:10 local time, giving Luka and his teammates enough time to complete the visit and support local charitable organizations before heading to the airport.
Lakers wrap up special Slovenia minicamp
The hospital visit provided a meaningful conclusion to a four-day trip that Doncic organized to bring his Lakers teammates together before the 2026-27 NBA season.
The Lakers arrived in Slovenia on Thursday, with the minicamp combining basketball preparation with extensive team-bonding activities. The private trip was organized and financed by Doncic.
After checking into their Ljubljana hotel, the group began with a team dinner before getting to work on the basketball court.
The Lakers held multiple practices at Stozice Arena, including a two-hour workout led by assistant coach Greg St. Jean.
The group also experienced Ljubljana away from basketball, including a boat ride along the Ljubljanica River, meals around the city and a visit to Ljubljana Castle.
The trip later moved to Bled, where Doncic's teammates competed in rowing activities on Lake Bled before playing golf.
Doncic takes Lakers to his childhood court
One of the most personal moments came toward the end of the trip when Luka brought his teammates to the outdoor basketball court in Ljubljana, where he spent countless hours playing as a child before moving to Real Madrid at age 13.
The Lakers unexpectedly arrived at the court in Savsko naselje on Sunday morning and surprised local children who were playing basketball there.
Doncic and his teammates spent time with the young players and shot baskets with them, turning an ordinary Sunday morning into a rare opportunity for the children to share a court with NBA stars.
The court has particular significance to Luka. He helped renovate and redesign the facility in 2021, with upgrades including a new playing surface, seating, lighting and baskets.
