Chelsea will not be rushed into a decision on Coventry City transfer target Mykhailo Mudryk, insists head coach Xabi Alonso.
The Sky Blues have been linked with the rapid Ukrainian winger in recent weeks, with the 25-year-old expected to leave Stamford Bridge on loan before the summer transfer window shuts.
City have competition from a host of clubs for the player’s services, not least from Leeds United who, according to European transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano are “preparing a new loan bid” for Mudryk, with talks “ongoing” following the rejection of an initial bid.
Mudryk is reported to be currently part of a group training away from the first-team core with just eight days of the transfer window remaining.
Chelsea kick off their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at Fulham tonight. And ahead of that short journey, head coach Alonso said any decision will be taken on their time, with no rush.
Asked if Mudryk will be in tonight’s squad at Craven Cottage, Alonso told The Standard: “We will see. We still have time to decide, and we don’t have to rush on many decisions and at the right time we will take them, at the moment not yet.”
Chelsea are keen for the left winger to get back up to speed with regular first team football following a near two year absence due to a substance ban.
Coventry are said to be pushing to sign Mudryk on loan and, according to TeamTalk, the Blues are open to the possibility of reuniting him with club legend Frank Lampard.
Verdict: With Ephron Mason-Clark as City’s only recognised left winger, Mudryk would add proven Premier League quality and competition. Mason-Clark missed out at Arsenal due to returning from a pre-season injury, leaving striker Brandon Thomas-Asante to deputise. The Sky Blues lack specialist strength in depth in the position and the pacy Ukrainian would appear to be the perfect solution.
