Xabi Alonso says Chelsea will not rush over a decision on the future of Mykhailo Mudryk, amid Leeds United’s talks with the London club for the winger.
Mudryk is expected to leave the Blues to jumpstart his career having gone more than 18 months without playing a competitive game due to anti-doping charges, which were dropped this summer. He, therefore, is eligible to play in competition once more.
Leeds are looking to land the Ukrainian on loan amid their desire to bring in a new left-sided attacker. A first proposal has been rebuffed but the Whites’ interest remains active.
Mudryk is currently training away from the main Chelsea squad, being within a cohort of players - including the likes of Liam Delap - who look set to leave Stamford Bridge before deadline day next week.
Alonso was asked about the future of Mudryk over the weekend, and took a diplomatic line. He said: “We will see, we still have time to decide, and we don't have to rush on many decisions and at the right time we will take them, at the moment not yet.”
Daniel Farke has underscored the need for more additions before deadline day, with just eight days of the transfer window now remaining.
Leeds are hoping to land Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Michael Zetterer as their new number two. The club are also in need of a left-footed cover for left-back.
Though the areas of want are clear, Farke has been keen not to mention what type of player profile he desires in public. When asked directly about Mudryk on Saturday, Farke replied: "I'm not sure if I ever mentioned the profile or opposition.
“I can't really remember it. But for good players we are always open. Like I mentioned, I'm happy with my squad.
“We have replaced some important players with really good talented young players but I will also make sure that they're pushed to the last day of this window for giving this club the best possible squad. And we'll see then in which position.
“I don't want to speak too much about profiles or positions, because if I speak too much about it, then the price goes up and we work sustainably.
“So for that behind the scenes our people do a lot and for that not too much about names or profiles anyhow. We just work on it.”
