Nicolas Jackson could be heading towards the Stamford Bridge exit, with reports claiming the Chelsea striker has identified Atletico Madrid as his preferred destination. However, the Blues are understood to favour a permanent sale, and Aston Villa could emerge as a serious alternative if they decide to make their move.
Atletico’s interest makes sense. Jackson already has experience of Spanish football from his time at Villarreal, and a return to La Liga could offer him the chance to become a central figure in a new attack. The issue for Chelsea is the structure of the deal. Reports indicate Atletico have explored a loan, while Chelsea want the certainty of a permanent departure.
That is where Aston Villa could become crucial. Unai Emery knows Jackson from their time together at Villarreal, and Villa have been linked with the striker as they assess their attacking options. Chelsea’s reported valuation of around £65 million is substantial, but if Villa are searching for a proven Premier League forward, Jackson could become a logical target.
From CHELSEA’s perspective, £65 million would be a very good amount to accept. Jackson undoubtedly possesses major strengths: pace, physicality, intelligent movement and the ability to stretch opposition defences.
He has also shown that he can contribute goals and create chances. But his Chelsea career has been marked by inconsistency, particularly in front of goal, and questions remain over whether he is capable of becoming the club’s undisputed long-term No. 9.
That makes the reported valuation particularly attractive. Chelsea would be receiving a significant fee for a 25-year-old striker whose role appears increasingly uncertain, rather than risking his value falling if he spends another season in and out of the side. The money could also be reinvested elsewhere as the club continues to reshape its squad.
A move to Atletico may be Jackson’s preferred outcome, but CHELSEA are under no obligation to accept a deal that does not suit them. If Aston Villa are willing to meet the £65 million asking price, the Blues should seriously consider taking it.
It would represent a strong return, provide clarity for all parties and allow Chelsea to move forward with their attacking plans
