Liverpool’s interest in Ibrahim Mbaye has cooled significantly in recent days, with the club turning its attention to Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh instead.
The Reds spent much of August exploring a move for the PSG teenager as they searched for attacking reinforcements following Mohamed Salah’s exit.

Reports in mid-August suggested personal terms had been agreed on a five-year contract, with Mbaye said to favour Anfield over a rival move to Bayer Leverkusen.
PSG’s valuation of the 18-year-old proved a sticking point, and reports from England indicated the club came to view the fee as too high.
That shift in stance coincided with Liverpool activating a separate pursuit of Minteh.
The Gambia international has also agreed personal terms with the Reds, according to Fabrizio Romano, though Brighton have rejected opening bids of £50 million and £60 million and are said to want closer to £70 million to sanction a sale.
With Liverpool’s focus seemingly settling on Minteh for now, Mbaye’s future at PSG remains unresolved and a new suitor has emerged in Italy.
According to Calciomercato.it, Mbaye has been offered to AS Roma as the Serie A club searches for a wide attacker to strengthen the squad available to manager Gianpiero Gasperini.
The outlet reports that Roma have also been presented with the option of signing Rafael Leao, who is seeking a new club away from Milan, but that Mbaye represents the latest name to enter their thinking.
Calciomercato.it states that there is no concrete negotiation between Roma and PSG at this stage.
The report describes Mbaye as a name Roma will monitor, with the Italian side potentially able to offer him regular game time and a leading role in the squad.
Mbaye made his PSG debut in August 2024 at 16 and has since gone on to make more than 40 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions. He represented Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, where he became the youngest African player to score at the tournament.
Two years remain on his contract in Paris, and doubts over his first-team opportunities under Luis Enrique have fuelled speculation about a departure throughout the summer.
Aston Villa and Manchester United have also been credited with interest at various points in the window.
For Liverpool, the priority in the coming days is understood to be closing the gap with Brighton over Minteh, with the transfer deadline of 1 September fast approaching.
