How will David Moyes' Everton squad look when the transfer window closes next week?
Moyes, like most around the club, remains hopeful that a right-back will be found. Other arrivals could yet be secured if the Friedkin Group's ambition is to challenge for Europe. Some of that may be dependent on exits and, with Carlos Alcaraz, Tim Iroegbunam, Nathan Patterson and Beto among those in the last year of the contracts, Everton are likely to be heavily involved in the final throes of the window.
The loan market will also be one to watch. Adam Aznou was not in the squad on Saturday despite some positive displays in pre-season and if Moyes is unwilling to turn to him, experience elsewhere would make sense.
Academy players like Braiden Graham and Jack Patterson are attracting interest and could be among a series of Under-21s to be allowed a taste of senior footbal lby heading out.
Of the business already done, the signing of Brennan Johnson was the fifth deal of the summer to boost the first team. What was essentially a swap deal saw Dwight McNeil move the other way and both made their debuts against their former club on Saturday.
Johnson followed the signings of Christian Norgaard (£7m, from Arsenal) and Hayden Hackney (initial £18m, from Middlesbrough) as the new faces in the first team squad. Merlin Rohl (£18m, from Freiburg) and Tyrique George (£16.5m, from Chelsea) are now permanent Blues after their loan spells last season led to full deals.
In the academy, Everton have bolstered their U18s by signing young forward Kai Hutchison from Dundee and left-back Tom McDermott and midfielder Arthur Barratt, both from Chelsea.
