Spurs preparing new Cody Gakpo offer – Latest Liverpool FC News

Liverpool fans continue to crave new signings, but the main story of the day surrounds the potential departure of Cody Gakpo.

Spurs line-up fresh Gakpo offer

According to Soccer News in the Netherlands, Tottenham are preparing a new bid for Gakpo, having seen a €60 million (£51.3m) offer turned down.

Spurs “do not intend to abandon interest” in the Dutchman this summer, still seeing him as a leading attacking target.

The report adds that Roberto De Zerbi “would be a big supporter of Gakpo’s arrival” at Spurs, but Liverpool will “only be willing to listen” if a “very attractive amount” is offered.

The 27-year-old can be a divisive figure at Anfield, not least last season, but does it really make sense to sell him?

Gakpo was one of the few positives in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle on Sunday, scoring an impressive equaliser, and he was also lively in pre-season.

Moving him on would only hamper the wide squad depth at Andoni Iraola‘s disposal, unless at least two wingers come in this week.

• Iraola insists Liverpool’s midfield isn’t a personnel issue – sorry, but it’s hard to completely agree there!

• Virgil van Dijk insists he “fully trusts” Liverpool to make the right decisions when it comes to the final week of the window

• Alexander Isak played his first 90 minutes for Liverpool against Newcastle yesterday, with Iraola saying it is a “good step” in the right direction

• Stefan Bajcetic‘s boyhood club Celta Vigo are considering his return more than six years after he left for Liverpool

• Lewis Koumas was “emotional” after making his Premier League debut, with a special tribute paid to his mum for the sacrifices she has made. He did well when he came on

“This is the peak, it's quite emotional to be honest." ?

A reminder to read David Lynch‘s key talking points from yesterday’s game for This Is Anfield, including a promising performance from Jeremy Jacquet:

“After an almost perfect 45 minutes on debut against Como last time out, Jeremy Jacquet was given a baptism of fire at St James’ Park from the start.

“But the 21-year-old largely came through that test, even if he wasn’t quite as jaw-dropping as on his bow at Anfield.

“He won 4/4 duels, completed 90 percent of his passes, and made 12 of those into the final third, though there were a couple of hairy moments.

“Just imagine how good the Frenchman is going to be as he continues to learn across his first Premier League season.”

On this day in 2019, Jordan Henderson captained Liverpool for the 100th time, as the Reds won 3-1 at home to Arsenal in the Premier League, en route to cruising to the title.

This was Jurgen Klopp‘s side at their absolute peak, and the Gunners were unable to cope with the quality and intensity on show.

Joel Matip headed Liverpool in front before Salah scored twice, one of which was from the penalty spot.

That Reds side was one of the best in the history of English football – they are very much missed!
