Does Todd Monken making Deshaun Watson the starter make you think negatively of the head coach…

Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Browns fans and fans across the country.

The news broke this morning that the Cleveland Browns are naming Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback. Fans are not pleased, to say the latest.

If I ran a poll asking how fans felt about Watson starting, I think it would be almost universally lopsided to the negative right now. With that in mind, I’m throwing a little bit of a wrinkle into the way the question is phrased for this week’s Reacts question. The focus of the question is on head coach Todd Monken.

Even though you may not like the fact that Watson is suiting up as the start over Shedeur Sanders in Week 1, the fact of the matter is Monken was handed a less-than-ideal quarterback situation this year. He tried to make it a competition between the two, and neither player ran away with the job. The long-term prospects of the team seem set up for drafting a quarterback in 2027.

Our question below asks if Monken naming Watson the start impacts your view of him as a head coach already? Or does he get more leeway, given the circumstances mentioned above, and because he deserves a chance to make whatever stamp he’s trying to make on the team, regardless of fan popularity? The two choices are that you respect Monken’s decision (even though you may hate it), or that you think he’s dumb for it, implying that you now have a negative opinion of Monken too.
