Nuggets predicted to sign $63M NBA champion, eight-year veteran after landing DeMar DeRozan image
The Denver Nuggets have been limited in what they can do this summer as they continue to deal with significant financial constraints. Just a few years ago, Denver was an NBA championship team. Now, the organization is trying to find a way to get back into contention after struggling to make a deep playoff run.
With limited financial flexibility, the Nuggets have not been able to make many major moves. They even had to part ways with young star Peyton Watson.
“Denver is trading Watson to the Cleveland Cavaliers and will receive Cleveland's 2031 first-round pick and a 2032 second-rounder from the Sacramento Kings. The Cavs are sending Max Strus to the Los Angeles Clippers, which gives them the flexibility to sign Watson to a four-year, $88 million contract. There were multiple other minor moves involved to complete the deal, including the Washington Wizards and Charlotte Hornets," Bleacher Reports Joseph Rucker wrote.
After moving on from Watson, Denver made a smaller move to land future Hall of Famer DeMar DeRozan.
“The Nuggets signed DeMar DeRozan to a one-year deal at the veteran's minimum, per Shams Charania. DeRozan will now fill the void left behind by Peyton Watson in Denver's wing rotation," NBA reporter Evan Sidery posted.
Denver could still add another low-cost piece to its roster without creating too many financial issues. SI’s Logan Struck believes the Nuggets could bring back former NBA champion Bruce Brown.
“Will we see the cowboy come back to Denver? Last offseason, Bruce Brown signed with Denver on a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum, returning to the Nuggets for the first time since leaving right after he helped win the 2023 NBA Finals. Sure, Brown is not the best player in the world, but he brings his all and has proven that he can make plays on both sides of the ball. For a player who is willing to do anything to put on for the city of Denver, why not bring him back? The Nuggets need some guard depth, and Brown is a low-risk option,” Struck wrote.
It would give Brown another opportunity in Denver, where he has already developed chemistry with several of the team's core players. More importantly, he understands his role and has proven that he can contribute without needing a large role offensively.
Brown has made $63 million throughout his career. It would not be a headline-grabbing signing, but it could be a reliable addition that helps Denver fill an important need. Brown has already shown what he can bring to the Nuggets, making a potential reunion a low-risk move for a team that needs guard depth.
