Why Chelsea have no shirt sponsor against Fulham tonight

Chelsea will begin a fourth consecutive Premier League season without a front-of-shirt sponsor when Xabi Alonso’s side face Fulham at Craven Cottage tonight.

The Blues have confirmed they will wear their new 2026/27 home kit for the 8pm kick-off, featuring the refreshed crest, gold Nike logo and Club World Cup badge.

However, the most valuable commercial space on the shirt remains empty.

Chelsea’s official kit announcement confirms the home colours will be worn against Fulham, but it makes no reference to a new principal shirt partner.

Why Chelsea have started without a shirt sponsor

Chelsea’s agreement with industrial AI company IFS explains why its branding has disappeared.

The club described IFS as a multi-year global partner when the agreement was announced, but its logo was only due to feature on the front of Chelsea’s shirts for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

The wider partnership continues, while the prominent shirt position has become available again.

Chelsea have reportedly decided not to rush into another short-term agreement.

The Chelsea Chronicle reports, citing The Athletic, that the club believes revenue from its wider collection of global partners can help compensate while negotiations continue for a suitable front-of-shirt deal.

That follows ReadChelsea’s previous report that Chelsea had lowered their asking price to between £45million and £50million per season, with technology company HP among the businesses approached.

No agreement has been completed in time for the opening fixture.

Chelsea continue familiar sponsor search

Chelsea have not started a Premier League season with a front-of-shirt partner since their agreement with Three ended in 2023.

Infinite Athlete, DAMAC Properties and IFS have subsequently appeared on the shirt through shorter agreements, but none provided the permanent arrangement Chelsea have been seeking.

The market has also become more competitive following the removal of gambling companies from Premier League shirt fronts.

The Guardian reported that several clubs were searching for new partners during the same period, placing further pressure on available commercial agreements.

Chelsea are evidently prepared to wait for the right value and partner rather than fill the space before the season begins.

Supporters watching through the confirmed Fulham versus Chelsea television and streaming options will therefore see Alonso’s team begin their campaign in another sponsorless shirt.
