Tight end C.J. Uzomah, who played the last of his 10 NFL seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles during their Super Bowl-winning 2024 season, announced his retirement Monday, Aug. 24.
Uzomah will retire with the Cincinnati Bengals, with whom he played from 2015-21.

“History has a way of repeating itself and there’s no place I’d want to formally announce my retirement, than the place that started it all for me and gave me my chance,” Uzomah wrote on Twitter/X. “The place I will always think of as my second home and will always hold a special place in me and my family’s heart. The place where we won a playoff game for the first time since before I was born, and went on an odds defying run to the Super Bowl. A place I’ve met people who have become like brothers to me.
“Cincinnati, thank you for everything.”

Uzomah’s best season came with the Bengals in 2021, when he started all 16 games and caught 49 passes for 493 yards and five touchdowns — all career-highs.
The Bengals went 10-7 in 2021, won the AFC North, and upset the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs before nearly upsetting the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl. Uzomah started all four playoff games, catching 15 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Uzomah suffered a serious knee injury just nine snaps into the AFC Championship Game against Kansas City. Despite that, he rehabbed aggressively and returned for Super Bowl LVI.

After the 2021 season, the Jets signed Uzomah to a three-year, $24 million contract. But he caught only 29 passes over the next two seasons, and was released by the Jets in March 2024, two years into his contract.
Uzomah played seven games for the Eagles in 2024, starting three, but was not the target of any pass attempts.
The former Auburn standout retires with 192 catches for 1,881 yards in his career and 16 touchdowns.
