On Monday, the San Francisco 49ers became the center of the NFL world's attention for all the wrong reasons when it was announced that team owner Jed York had been arrested in Ohio for engaging in prostitution. York has reportedly already pleaded no contest in a municipal court and will serve two days in jail as punishment.
Now, the NFL has released a statement in response to the incident.
“We are aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” wrote Brian McCarthy of the NFL front office, per NFL insider Adam Schefter of ESPN on X, formerly Twitter.

York isn't the first owner in the NFL world to be charged with such a crime, as New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft also found himself in legal hot water for the same issue back in 2019. Those charges ended up getting dropped after evidence was dismissed in the case, but evidently, York had no such luck in his own legal process, choosing to plead no contest in remarkably quick time and now spending the next several hours behind bars.
It's certainly not a great look for the 49ers, who are hoping to build off their resilient 2025 season, which saw them make the divisional round of the playoffs despite dealing with a plethora of injuries on both sides of the ball. Injury concerns have already started to flare up for the team so far at training camp, with the regular season less than three weeks away.
In any case, it remains to be seen whether York will end up releasing a statement on the matter once he is back in the free world.
