Ed Oliver attended practice on Monday but did not participate. Oliver and his Buffalo Bills teammates returned to Orchard Park for practice following their 31-7 win over the Cleveland Browns on Saturday. He did not play in the game and is currently out with an injury, but he was out on the field this morning.
Oliver appeared to be in good spirits at practice in a short videos posted by the media. The defensive tackle could be seen walking across the field as the team stretched. He exchanged pleasantries with a number of teammates and did a little stretching before he jogged off.

This was the first practice since news broke that Oliver’s son drowned in his swimming pool in June. The story had gone unreported until last week when an unaffiliated reporter posted images of a distraught Oliver speaking with authorities. Local news had apparently kept quiet about the story in an effort to allow the family privacy. Oliver’s son’s death was ruled an accident. Many people, including Bills quarterback Josh Allen, were upset by the way the news was broken.
Despite the tragedy, Oliver reported to training camp on time and has been participating in team activities. He has yet to appear in a preseason game. The Bills open their season on the road against the Houston Texans.
The Bills took Oliver with the No. 9 pick in the 2019 NFL draft. He signed a three-year, $68 million extension to stay in Buffalo three years ago. Oliver missed most of the 2025 season with various injuries, including a torn biceps that landed him on the IR. He returned in the postseason and played 16 snaps in the Bills’ loss to the Denver Broncos.
