The New England Patriots knew they had a wide receiver room full of talented players, and the harsh reality is that they weren't going to keep all of them. Kayshon Boutte was the one player from the start of training camp who turned heads, and the Patriots have decided to trade him to the Houston Texans, according to Tom Pelissero of The Ringer.
“Trade! The Patriots are sending WR Kayshon Boutte to the Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick, sources tell [Ringer] [Netflixsports],” Pelissero wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
This was a trade that works for both teams, as the Texans need a wide receiver after Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL last week. The Texans have already been dealing with injuries to their receiving corps, and Higgins was set to make a bigger impact on the team this season. Now, Boutte can come in and be a reliable piece for CJ Stroud.

The Texans now have Boutte, Nico Collins and Xavier Hutchinson as their top receivers, and Tank Dell could very well be in that picture depending on how he continues to rehab from his injury two seasons ago. Dell returned to practice just a few weeks ago, and it looks like the Texans are fine with bringing him along slowly.
As for the Patriots, they've never been shy about adding help on their defense. Reed should be a quality piece to their safety depth, and it'll be interesting to see what his role on the team is.
It wasn't a surprise that the Patriots moved one of their receivers after how they've all performed over the course of the offseason and training camp. Kyle Williams was the latest receiver in their preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles who showed flashes and has probably given himself a chance to make the roster.
